This year I found a new author that is one of my favorite authors of all time and his name is Chris Rylander and he wrote the whole fourth stall series and he is starting a new series and not that long ago his second book of the series came out. If you are interested click here to see his author page on www.amazon.com. My favorite books I read this year is The Fourth Stall, The Crossover, and The False Prince. The best thing I liked about reading workshop is READING! I love to read great books. I see myself more of a reader this year than previous years because our teacer introduced me into a lot of books that I was interested in. My reading plan for the summer is to finish the book The Shadow Throne by the same author of The False Prince. The False Prince is the first book in the series and The Shadow Throne is the third and last one in the series.
Year With The Flock By: Jake
Once I walked into the room on the first day of school, I was scared and nervous. But after I saw the couch, the comfy cubes, and the awesome comfy chairs, I knew his was going to be a awesome year. Well, I guess I was right. Do you want to know why? I’ll tell you that later. It’s something to do with successes, improvements, favorites, and life lessons.
Here are some highlights and achievements in fifth grade. I am going to share some things that I succeeded on. Also, I will describe some my improvements I had. Another thing I will explain is fifth grade memories. Lastly, I will demonstrate my life lessons I will take with me. Now let’s begin about my fifth grade year!
Now, here are some things I succeeded on. One thing I succeeded on is powers of 10 in math. It was hard but at the end on my post-test I did as I expected. Another thing I powered through is finding great books for me and understanding the text much better in Reading. Mr. Jones and his huge classroom library got me to find awesome books and understand the text better. Some of these books are The Crossover, The Fourth Stall, and The False Prince which was actually a read aloud. So that makes me a better reader. Lastly, I also improved on figuring out what to write about when I ask myself “what if” questions in writing. Those were some examples of what I succeeded on.
I am going to share with you some things I have improved on this year. One improvement I had is I grew my vocabulary. Some words I learned are boorish, malevolently, apprehensively, and dejected. Those were just some examples. Another improvement I had was my handwriting. The last example I improved on is science. I was really terrible at science because it was hard to understand and now I am getting better.
Here are some of my favorites this year. One of my favorite things I got to do is join The Flock. I like the community of all of the students that were in The Flock. Another thing I got to do is our owl pellets. That was a very fun science experiment. The last fun thing I got to do is the pool party! Now that was fun swimming and hanging out with my friends at the pool. That is 3 examples of my favorite things of my fifth grade year!
Now, Here are a few life lessons I will take with me. One thing I learned is don’t shut down if you get a question wrong on a test or something. Another lesson I learned is always when you work with more than one person and you are working smoothly then you will work faster. The last life lesson I learned is help someone else before you help yourself. These were some good life lessons I learned this year.
This was a little bit about my big fifth grade year! I told you about some of my successes this year. I also shared with you some of my improvements of this year. Another thing I told you about is my fifth grade memories this year. Last thing I shared with you is my life lessons from fifth grade that I will take with me somewhere else. Once I walked out of the school building, I knew I was taking a step further to something bigger but I will always remember my elementary days at J.W. Reason. That was summarizing my fifth grade year!
EdCamp is a time to be the teacher and share your passion. It is a 10 minute time to teach people something new. Or come because they love what you are doing. I am making a time about how to train your puppy when you get him/her. I love puppies. Puppies is my passion. So all of the puppies inspired me. I loved this project. Anything to do with dogs I love. Even writing about dogs. My favorite thing to do with dogs is play with my dog right when I get home and he is excited. This is made by me and my friend Ashton. I love puppies!! No offense to you kitty lovers but I love puppies so much better. I still like kitties though. That is our EdCamp about training puppies when you get them.
We had four people in our book club and we finished the book. So we made a Google slides together after book club. So we all made a slide and we did a couple slides together at the end. The book was great and some other people and I are starting a new book called The Runaway King by: Jennifer Nielsen. The sequel to the book The False Prince. We got some cool pictures from Google and put them in there and I hope you enjoy it. By the way it's above. So I hope you enjoy flipping through our hard work. Give us your opinions by leaving a comment. I hope you enjoyed our things about the book. The Google slides will tell you a lot about the book.
We started math by doing this math exemplar called Ant in a Well. First I guessed 6 because 6x2=12 but before I really checked in I worked out the problem. The funny thing is I got a different answer. So what I did was I did the work above and went up and down. Going up and down once is one day. If you add all of these together when going up and down once is 1 day I mean when I add up I got 5 days. A lot of people said 6 because 6x2=12. Also how people got 6 is they got to 12 feet at the 5th day then went down to 10 feet and then go to 12 feet again and they were already on the 5th day so that is how I got 5. On the original problem I did this same exact chart thing that got my answer. So to get 6 feet for some people they went to 12 feet twice. So as you can see my answer is 5 days.
What I think this means is Let's say their is a glass marble and it's rolling and I push it the other way so that would mean the marble would move the direction that I pushed it in and it would go faster then before. Another way I would explain this is that the marble is going slow now and I push it so then it would go faster and going faster changes the motion of the marble. So that is how I would explain forces cause changes of motion.
All of the questions will be before I answer them in the text. First one. What does the video make you think about? To me the video makes me think about complementing good things to others at our school. Next one. How did this bring positive energy to their school? It brought positive energy by giving positive comments to other people to give them energy. Next one. What shocked you the most? What shocked me was how comments on Twitter and Facebook turned into a huge success. Last one. Would this help at our school? This would help a lot at our school because we would have nicer responses in all of the classrooms and a nicer school.
